Please provide any other information/qualifications: I’m a sailor based out of Nanaimo. I own a MacGregor 21 which I’ve sailed around Howe Sound, the Gulf islands and the Broken Group.

I crewed onboard a 58ft Beneteau as deckhand/cook to do the 2017 Bajahaha from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas. I worked as a floatplane dispatcher in Tofino for two years so I know the remote northern coastline well. I have a wilderness first aid training. I’m a great cook onboard a vessel. I do not get sea sick and I’m up for a great adventure. No complaints, I’m very calm and easy-going, here to have fun!

Please provide any other information/qualifications.

I’ve 20+ years of sailing experience. In the past 10 years I’ve sailed extensively in the Puget Sound w/ 5 Swiftsure (on C&C 121) and countless local races on several boats (Farr 30, First 40.7, Catalina 36, Waiquez 45, J105s, …). Earlier, I’ve raced and cruised quite a lot in the Med: Italy, South of France, Greece, and Ireland.

Foredeck is my favorite role, but comfortable in all positions, I’m 5’8” for 170 lbs.

I’ve recently attended the “Racing Rules & tactics” seminar sponsored by Seattle Sailing Club (members since ‘17).

I‘m enrolled for the “U.S. Sailing Safety at Sea seminar (two-days)” offered by The Sailing Foundation in Vancouver, WA (February 9&10 ‘19), which meets safety requirements for Van Isle 360.

I’m looking for racing opportunities in long races (e.g. Swiftsure long course, Southern Straits , .. )

Fair wind

So I have plenty of sea experience! I am relatively new to hand sailing, but am very keen and consider myself a quick study.

A few of my certs:

– Restricted Radio Operators Card – Marine (ROC-M)
– Pleasure Craft Operators Certificate (PCOC)
– SarNav Level 1
– Marine Basic First-Aid Certificate
– CanSail Level 1 + 2
– Competent Crew certification

I am happy to obtain any additional certifications prior to June 2019.

Cheers!

Do you have a valid 2 Day ISAF Safety at Certificate (skippers need crew with this certification, one day and 1/2 day certificates are not accepted): I am registered for an upcoming course
Race Availability: Entire Race
Please provide any other information/qualifications. (include races you have done, certificates held i.e. Marine First Aid, Restricted Radio Operators License etc. The more information you provide here, the better opportunity a skipper has at evaluating your qualifications. San Diego Bay races, Bellingham Pitch, Round the County, and others.

I can obtain any necessary certificates beforehand.

Dave Christopher;
Experience: 7 x Van Isle 360 races. Kinetic (2005), Spiny Norman (2007), Diva (2009, 2011, 2013), Occams Razor (2015, 2017).

Not to mention the plethora of Swiftsure, Southern Straits, Round the County, WIRW and all the VIRS and VARC races over the last 20 years on a variety of boats.

My goal is to do 10 circumnavigations, so I have a couple more to go, and as the years march on, missing one is not really an option……so to fulfill my goal, I need to go next year……and not necessarily on a local boat either.

I am a disciplined, willing and able sailor, capable of taking orders and providing tactical input when needed.

I’ve sailed several overnight offshore races (including 1st place team for division in this year’s Swiftsure) in the PNW, as well as a trans-pacific crossing from Gig Harbor to Honolulu on a 36ft Morgan.

I regularly sail in races in the Puget Sound, the California Coast and occasionally in Hong Kong. In my free time I sail anywhere I can find a boat :-).

I consider myself uncomplicated and adaptable, and I truly enjoy working with all the teams I’ve had the privilege to sail with.

I’ll be happy to send you a full resume upon request. Please contact me for any further details or to have quick chat about the Van Isle 360 race. Thanks!

I have done the Van Isle 4 previous times as a watch captain. Boat I have been sailing on does not appear to be doing it this time. I have over 30 years sailing experience. I am comfortable at any position from the bow to helm. I am good at sail repair and fixing most issues on a boat. I have done numerous Swiftsures, delivery down the coast. Lived in Hawaii for many years and did a lot of channel crossings. Heavy air sailing does not bother me. I used to have a 50t masters license but have let it expire. I have also been to the Safety at Sea seminars twice but mine just expired. If I got on a crew soon enough I would be willing to do the course again.
