While the skippers, crews and roadies are enjoying the racing, camaraderie and spectacular scenery, a small group of professionals and volunteers are standing by if any vessel is ever in need of assistance. Once the fleet passes Campbell River, the crews begin to sense the remoteness and wild that the Island has to offer.

The Organizing Authority works closely with these groups developing the communication protocols and safety plans in the event that it may need to be put into action. We thank BC Sailing and their volunteer instructors led by David Sutcliffe for providing ISAF certified Safety at Sea courses to prepare the crews in the event of an emergency, the Canadian Coast Guard for monitoring the fleet and providing the roll call on the leg from Winter harbour to Ucluelet, the Joint Rescue Centre in Victoria for coordinating potential Search and Rescue missions and all the Royal Canadian Marine Search And Rescue Volunteer Stations around the Island when the fleet is in their area of operations.
