Trevor Gibbons of A-Sea marine has kindly donated a lithium Ion Battery and charging system as a prize to be drawn at the end of the race. The battery is a combination start/house battery with 1000cca and 75 lithium amp hours. That’s the equivalent to 150 lead acid amp hours or an 8D battery, These batteries have a built in battery management system (BMS) called never die. The reason for this is if you run the battery down the BMS turns the battery off with 10-15% left in the battery. With a push of a button you can use the power to start the engine. Thank you Trevor for supporting the skippers with this awesome prize.
Since the very first race, Discovery Harbour has been a safe sanctuary for the fleet looking for current relief in Discovery Channel. Thank you for supporting us all these years. Power is also available for boats over 100′. 100Amp, 3Phase also available.

Hester Creek Wines will be providing the wine at the opening reception. Thank you Paul martin for making this a new tradition!
Hester Creek’s grapevines were first planted on our estate in 1968, when Italian immigrant and would-be grape grower Joe Busnardo was looking for the perfect spot to plant the cuttings he’d brought from Italy. There were only a few other vineyards in the Okanagan Valley; he could have planted anywhere. He chose this spot, a sun-drenched, east-facing bench south of Oliver for good reason: it’s the perfect place to grow grapes. Well-draining alluvial soil, sunny days and cool evenings encourage the development of complex and intense flavours; while the warmer temperatures and slope of the bench help the vines avoid the damaging frost that can settle on the valley floor in early spring and late fall.

One of the tightest harbours the fleet gets to snuggle up in is Telegraph Cove. On one side of Telegraph Cove is the historic cottages and whale museum, and on the other side is the new modern motel and RV park. One senses the distinction immediately upon arriving in the beautiful cove. Skippers have ben advised to bring lots of fenders and shoe horns when we start to park the fleet!
Gordie & Marilyn welcome us to Telegraph Cove Resort (Historic side) and Travis and his team welcome us to Telegraph Cove Marina & RV Park on the modern side of the cove. Thank you for having the fleet during our stay, everyone wishes they could stay longer.

Welcome Victoria Spirits as the presenting sponsor for GIN (Gulf Islands Nanaimo) race. . A modern spirit from a modern distillery. Victoria Spirits was created from a desire to reinvent gin – to make it more complex, to make it sing. And so in 2008, “Canada’s First Premium Gin” was born. Since this launch, our Canadian distillery has been supported by family, friends, and associates (not to mention, one Uncle Bob Blumer), working together to share a love of exceptional spirits, excellent company, and good humour.
What started local has blossomed. Named after its city of origin, Victoria Gin has transcended its roots and is now a truly national brand. It has also broken into the American market along with our barrel-aged Oaken Gin. Despite its success, Vic Gin is still crafted drop by drop, with wild-gathered botanicals and natural spring water, in our carbon-neutral distillery.
We keep it fresh. Without the constraints of history, we have been free to experiment while tipping our proverbial hat to what has come before. Master Distiller Peter Hunt wields his scientific post-nominals in the art of distilling, creating products that are clean, complex, and harmonious. Our distillery now produces a range of small-batch premium spirits and aromatic bitters, all with love and by hand, with our gleaming German copper pot still. Our artisan products walk a fine balance between tradition and innovation, in both their complex taste and unique aesthetic presentation.
We continue to be inspired, to expand, and to share the love. Let’s drink to the story so far. Long live Victoria’s Modern Spirit.
