March 12, 2009 - Nanamo, B.C.  - A newly designed Save On Foods Van Isle 360 Website will be launching soon.   Some parts of the current website, like the crew list, have crashed and are no longer functioning.  The new website and new crew signup page will be up and running as soon as possible. 

Feb. 2, 2009 - Nanaimo, B.C.- Race Organizers are happy to announce that the tenth anniversary of the Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race is forging ahead as planned, with the dates set for June 6 to 21, 2009.   

The deadline to enter this year's event has been extended to Feb. 28, 2009.  For sailors looking for competition and adventure the Van Isle 360 represents an incredible challenge.  As of this announcement 28 intrepid boats from Canada and the US have officially entered with more entries expected.    

"Though the event is getting off to a late start this year everyone is really excited about it", stated Race Director, Wayne Gorrie. " I think more than ever, in these uncertain times, people need events such as the Van Isle 360 to look forward to.  We have had some tough challenges this year but in the end we believe the 2009 Van Isle 360 will be the best one ever."

With this announcement race preparations for the crews and committees will now begin with earnest.

Sept. 4, 2008 - Race Organisers are excited to announce the tentative dates for the 10th anniversary of the Van Isle 360 International Yacht Race have been set for June 6 - 20, 2009.   If you are interested in entering please contact the race office as soon as possible.

It appears that the Van Isle 360 is a victim of it's own success and has outgrown it's Title sponsor.  The Cadillac Dealers of BC recently advised that, 'the Van Isle 360 had grown in both status and exposure, far beyond their [Cadillac BC] regional geography,  and had truly become an international brand marketing event.'  Wayne Gorrie,  Race Director for the Van Isle 360 stated,  "The Cadillac Dealers of BC were a great sponsor and we are very grateful to them.  Without their belief and assistance over the years the Van Isle 360 would not have happened."

That said, organizers are anxious to take the event to the next level and are currently seeking a new title sponsor.  "While we have a number of keenly interested parties, it is important to know that we are not prepared to run the event  without the security a Title Sponsor adds."

So mark June 6 - 20, 2009 on your calendar.  If a title sponsor is secured the event will go ahead as planned.   If not, sorry no event in 2009.
 

July 2, 2007, Nanaimo, B.C. - The overall winners of the Cadillac Van Isle 360 Yacht Race each received awesome one of a kind trophies, commissioned specifically for the event.  The stylized 'Orca's dorsal fin' was created by Nanaimo artist, Clint Work.   Each piece was carved from yellow cedar and painted in traditional colours.  The 'dorsal fin' was a very appropriate trophy as every sailor reported close encounters with a variety of different whales during the race.
