LEG 9 - CADILLAC VAN ISLE 360- RACE ABANDONED

June 28,  2007 - 1600 hrs - Victoria - Leg 9 of the Cadillac Van Isle 360 has been abandoned due to lack of wind.  This is the first leg in the 10 leg series to not be scored.

June 28, 2007 - 1000 hrs - Victoria - Only six boats have managed to finish as of this writing:  Icon, Capricorno, Flash, Makika, Occam's Razor and Blue Lightning.

June 28, 2007 - 1240 hrs - Victoria - Icon was once again the first boat to cross the finish line, finishing at 1023 hrs. last night.  The crew reported 20 knot westerlies at Sheringham which carried through Race Rocks and eased at the finish.  Makika, Flash and Capricorno have all reported their one hour out.

June 27, 2007 - 1640 - Victoria - Icon is reported abeam of Tatoosh Rock (Cape Flattery) at the mouth of the Juan de Fuca.  They are currently under spinnaker with a 10 knot westerly breeze enjoying the sun and having a nice sail.


Ucluelet Start

June 27, 2007 - 1600 hrs. - Today's race started in a light S.E. breeze under sunny skies in Ucluelet.   Icon was the first boat over the start line.  The 40 boats remaining in the fleet are making their way down the coast through the Juan de Fuca Strait and into Victoria.  This leg will finish off the Westcan Pier at the entrance to Victoria harbour.  Good spectator viewing from Ogden Point Pier.  The fleet will moor at the Empress Floats in front of the Empress Hotel downtown.

After standing down in Ucluelet, the race committee is currently enroute to the finish line in Victoria via the Arbutus RV Land Yacht..

Forecast Juan de Fuca Strait
Gale warning downgraded to small craft warning.
Winds westerly 15 to 20 knots easing to 5 to 15 late this morning.
Winds rising to westerly 15 to 25 early this evening. Winds easing To westerly 10 to 15 early Thursday morning. A few showers beginning late this evening.
Outlook. Light to moderate variable winds with moderate to strong southeasterlies near the entrances.
