A TIGHT START FOR LEG TWO - FRENCH CREEK TO COMOX
June 17, 2007 - French Creek - Tension was very high on the start line of leg two of the Cadillac Van Isle 360 as all 42 boats jammed themselves in at the pin end of the line.

Wind was 12 to 15 knots at the start out of the North West but petered out slowly over the day.  By the time the final boats finished the wind had almost died completely.

The good news was the first boats finished early the bad news was there wasn't enough water to let them into Comox inner harbour.  Icon, however, was able to raise her 12 foot keel to 8 feet which allowed her to slip over the shallows.

There were more close finishes again today as Mad Max, Farr- ari and Time Bandit finished within 19 secs. of each other.

A number of boats, including all of the multihulls, took a chance on the channel between Hornby and Denman Islands which seemed to pay off.

After another great day on the water, the sailors headed up to the Comox Valley Yacht Club where Paradise Island Cheese treated them to a wine and cheese party.

The beautiful Town of Comox is a big supporter of the Cadillac Van Isle 360 and the community turned out in force to welcome the fleet.  Greeter hosts designed posters for each individual boat which were then displayed at the awards reception.

Results today are as follows:
Div. 1 - Capricorno, Icon and Flash;
Div. 2- Kairos, Spiny Norman, Carene;
Div. 3 - Hushwings, Ion, Betty Boop;
Div 4 - Makika, Blue Lightning, Dan Gereaux.  Blue Lightning and Makika are currently tied for first place.

The Mount Gay Rum Dash, where the boats dash from the official finish line to the Mount Gay Rum line inside the harbour, took place immediately after the boats crossed the finish line with the winners taking their prize home in a bottle.
